It’s a good time to sell, say home owners
Mortgage lender Halifax has released a survey of almost 2000 UK adults, revealing 56% of them feel that it is a good time to sell their property.
The survey was conducted by Ipsos MORI. Halifax mortgages director, Craig McKinlay, said: ‘We’ve seen a strong start to the year with transaction volumes rising. With overall sentiment regarding the outlook for the housing market continuing to improve.
‘The increase in optimism is partly due to stronger house prices and this shift could provide a much needed increase in the supply of properties available for sale during the rest of the year’.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics indicate that the average UK house price is now £254,000, an increase of £60,000 since 2009.
News in recent weeks has focused on the large difference in London house prices compared to the rest of the country, with the capital’s average house price now £458,000.
Despite these figures 60% of those surveyed expect the next 12 months to be a good time to buy.
